Wakefield Phoenix H5 Squad

On Sunday, 25th April the squad travelled to Whitcliffe Mount for a friendly fixture against Normanton Falcons.  The Yr.5/6 Phoenix players were initially overwhelmed by the fluid play and the superior shooting of the opposition.  Then gradually they clawed their way back with some accurate passing and some excellent shooting particularly from Emerald and Vivi.  This real team effort meant that they went into the lead in the sixth period of play and finally won by 15-11.  Thanks to Jeanette Pitts who brought her squad across for the match.    The squad was as follows (Capt) Grace Harrison, Faye Clements, Sarah Baker, Olivia Theaker, Sarah Willis, (Players Player) Vivi Way, Emerald Cartwright, Liberty Jones and Claire Berry.

U.14/16 WYJNL

Due to the entry of a new club and even more second teams, the set up of the League has changed yet again.  Both Leagues have been divided into two divisions and all matches have been played up to the end of November.  The play-offs for League position took place at the start of December.  The U.16 1 team won both their games and have gained entry into the Regional League.  They will take no further part in the WYJNL during this season.  In the play-offs our U.14 1 team lost their two games (but were placed third) and so will be involved the new Plate Competition.  The fixtures have been organised and matches will commence on the 10th January.

Exciting Regional News

This season brings the exciting prospect of both an U.14 and U.16 Regional League.  The U.14 League will replace the Clubs Festival that our team was honoured to play in last season.  The U.16 squad found that the regional matches gave them the experience and tough opposition that they needed to hone their skills.  Also the other first is going to be the inclusion of an U.12 Clubs Festival which will be held at EIS on the 9th May.  These must be some of our targets for the season.

Bag Pack 13/02/10

Thank you to the players and parents for the fantastic turn out for our annual fund raising event.  As it was half term the numbers were lower than usual but everyone worked hard for one hour at the Sainsbury's store in Wakefield.  Thanks go to Kathy Pearson, Jayne Blount and Jackie Thomas who divided the supervision between themselves and organised husbands and Mums to count the money.  Congratulations as we broke our record and raised £888-00.
